Established last July 3, 2005 in a middle of a full blown DENGUE epidemic in the Zamboanga City Tzu Chi fast-tracked the launching of the first ever blood donor registry in Zamboanga City to be known as TZU CHI BLOOD DONOR REGISTRY. Tzu Chi Zamboanga will offer free blood typing and Rh factor services to 18-50 years old adult potential blood donors. Upon knowing their blood types, their confidential contact addresses and phone number will be stored in a computer databank managed by Tzu Chi Zamboanga. Initially, only members of the Tzu Chi Blood Donor Registry themselves can avail of the services. Any member of the registry can call on the services of the TZU CHI BLOOD DONOR REGISTRY in cases where blood transfusion is needed. The REGISTRY can retrieve the data of potential blood donors with the same blood type and call them to appear at the RED CROSS BLOOD BANK or other accredited BLOOD BANK for blood donation. The accredited blood bank will take care of screening the donor, test the donated blood against blood borne diseases and processing and delivering the blood to the family of the member in need. This way TZU CHI BLOOD DONOR REGISTRY will take care of matching the right donor with the right blood type needed in a shorter time. In times of emergency wherein huge volume of blood is needed at a short time, precious lives will be saved since it will be easier to match donor since the REGISTRY will just a phone call away. By being a member, they pledge to make themselves available at anytime when physical able should their co-member need their blood for personal emergency transfusion purposes.
