TZU CHI-JAIPUR FOOT CAMPS

Inspired by a Tzu Chi DA-AI TV Drama Program BI YA SUNA wherein the lead actor wrestled with desperation after being amputated due to medical reasons, Tzu Chi Zamboanga first held its Tzu Chi Jaipur Foot Camp in January 20-25, 2003 at the Zamboanga City Medical Center with Dra. Laly Berredo and technicians from the Philippine Orthopedic Center. With the ultimate objective of returning amputees to “normalcy” by helping them regain their mobility and self-respect, Tzu Chi Zamboanga partnered with the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC), the Philippine Air Lines Foundation, Sulpicio Lines and its main sponsor the Mahaveer Philippines Foundation. Interested indigents in need of Below (BKA) or Above Knee (AKA) prosthesis can avail of these free prosthesis by showing up during the Foot Camp.
The Jaipur Prosthesis that is given for FREE is so efficient that after the limb is fitted, a person can walk without a stick or support, and some of them can even climb a tree. With the fitted Jaipur limb, the physically handicapped can become productive citizen of the community once again. Among the special features of the Jaipur limbs are the following: Functionally and cosmetically close to natural human limbs; it is light weight (approximately 1.3-2.5 kilogram); it is water proof; amputees can wear shoes and needs almost no post fitment training as amputees can easily adapt with little practice.
Working and manufactured out of the Tzu Chi Great Love Physical Rehabilitation and Jaipur Foot Prosthesis Manufacturing Center; The Tzu Chi-Jaipur Foot Camps have brought hope and made a difference in the lives of the differently-abled sectors of our society not only in Zamboanga City but to neighboring provinces in Mindanao and Visayas as well. Since its first Foot Camp it has remained true to its vow in “RESTORING HOPE, REBUILDING LIVES WITH GREAT LOVE ONE FOOT AT A TIME”.
